Going-to-the-Sun Road
Montana · Silver Trekker
Going-to-the-Sun Road deserves its own story even inside Glacier. Doug studied vehicle length rules, timed their entry for 6 a.m., and still felt his shoulders touch his ears on the narrow sections.
Marla documented every switchback—photos for the folks back at the Des Moines coffee shop who said they were “brave.” Brave, Doug argued, is winter in Iowa; this is just prepared.
They stopped at every waterfall pullout, shared trail mix with marmots who were definitely not supposed to be fed, and high-fived at the summit sign. The drive down felt faster and somehow more dangerous.
Silver Trekker verdict: Iconic alpine road—check current restrictions, go early, unhitch if you must, and don’t rush.
