Blue Ridge Parkway
Appalachia · Silver Trekker
They picked up the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and committed to slow travel—45 mph never felt so luxurious. The Basecamp swayed gently through tunnels of orange and gold in October.
They stopped at Mabry Mill for photos and shortbread, hiked a piece of the Appalachian Trail near Peaks of Otter, and listened to a banjo player at a roadside stand. Every pullout became a debate: “One more photo?” (Always yes.)
Campgrounds along the parkway are cozy; Doug mastered the art of backing into angled sites while Marla spotted with hand signals they invented somewhere in North Carolina.
Silver Trekker verdict: The scenic drive every Airstreamer should do once—plan short days, long overlooks.
